Throughout the 1980s, Keith Haring created thousands of chalk drawings on the empty advertising spaces within the NYC subway. The drawings reached millions of New Yorkers on the daily, eventually becoming a defining feature of the NYC subway during these years.
The subway drawings were a seminal part of the artist’s work, not only due to their infamy at the time but because of their lasting effect on the public.
