Marilyn Minter (b. 1948) is a contemporary American artist whose personal brand of photorealistic painting examines contemporary notions of beauty, sensuality, and femininity. Minter appropriates the aesthetics of high-fashion editorials, depicting cropped bodies laden with jewels, dirt, and couture accessories, blurring the line between commercial and fine art. A longtime activist for women’s rights and supported of Planned Parenthood, Minter’s work has not only directly supported the organization, but has spurred much-needed conversations on sexuality, diversity, gender identity, and reproductive rights.

Gathered from interviews, lectures, writings, and other primary sources, Minter-isms highlight the captivating insights, provocations, and wisdom of this inspiring artist and activist.
