The Notebooks is a compilation of private notebooks Jean-Michel Basquiat kept from 1980 to 1987. The seven notebooks Basquiat filled during these years offer a rare glimpse into his mind. Filled with the artist’s handwritten poems, reflections, and prose—elements which often appear in his work—alongside drawings and pictograms, the book provides intimate snapshots of Basquiat’s creative process.
